"The Land of Oz" continues the adventures of Dorothy Gale, the young girl from Kansas who first visited Oz in the earlier book. This time, Dorothy is accompanied by her friends from her previous adventure: the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodman, and the Cowardly Lion.
The story begins with Dorothy returning to Oz and discovering that the Emerald City is in turmoil. The ruler of Oz, Princess Ozma, has been transformed into a marble statue by the wicked enchantress Mombi. Mombi is using her magic to control the inhabitants of Oz, creating chaos and unhappiness throughout the land.
