Purpose

The Friends of St Mary's County Library (FOL) is a 501(c)3 charitable, non-profit organization that strives to encourage learning and reading by all age groups. To this end we accept charitable donations of books, DVDs and the like, and then sell them at a discount at our spring and fall book sales. This serves to get them into the hands of people who may not have access them otherwise. All of the profits go directly to support the St Mary's County Library. The public health crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic has prevented us from holding our usual sales events and forced us to temporarily stop accepting donations of books and related materials

This website will be run entirely by unpaid volunteers and allow us to sell some of the items we hold in order to free up storage room so that we can again accept donations. This will also help to get useful materials into the hands of people who can use them for home schooling. This entire project is a "virus workaround" that will benefit both the community and the library.

Consequently, the FOL has no business plan to establish a permanent online book sales web site or a "brick and mortar" store, nor does it have any plans to hire employees or to engage the services of book sale contractors. All sales are final and the customer has to pick up their purchases. We cannot ship or deliver any items. We sincerely hope to return to our regular spring and fall book sales soon.

The Board of the FOL will also effect during the first quarter of 2021 a decision regarding the status of on-line sales throughout 2021.
