Edited by The Association for the Preseration of Virginia Antiquities (APVA)

In 1994 the APVA launched the Jamestown Rediscovery archaeological project at the site of the first permanenet English Settlement in America on Jamestown Island. The comprehensive reserach effort to identify and interpret the remains of the 1607 James Fort and the town site is the association's centerpiece contribution to preparations for the 400th anniversary of Jamestown in 2007. When archaeologists found remains of the fort in 1996, APVA Preservation Virginia dispelled the long-held-belief that the forst was lost to the James River.
